I am in pain and distress; may your salvation, O God, protect me. I will praise God's name in song and glorify Him with thanksgiving.~Psalm 69:29-30
Great is our LORD and mighty in power; His understanding has no limit.~Psalm 147:5

Local Music Scene~Bon Iver
For Christmas this year, my parents got me an Ipod nano. I have been filling it with all kinds of artists, but the one that I really wanted to put on it was Bon Iver. It's impossible to talk about the local music scene without mentioning Bon Iver.
For those of you who already know about Bon Iver/Justin Vernon I won't bore you with his story (from E.C., winter in father's cabin all alone, recorded album...you know). Those of you who are interested in reading his story, here's the link to a great article from Volume One.
When wonderful boyfriend introduced me to Bon Iver, I listened and fell in love with Justin's voice and music. This guy makes me proud to be from his town. Every time I read an article or see his name in the paper, it makes me proud to know that he grew up here and went to school here (Chad graduated from Memorial, just two years after him).
In December Bon Iver played a show to a sold-out crowd at the State Theater. As a Christmas present to Chad, I got tickets to the show for us. I know neither of us will forget it. Justin was so humbled by the crowd's reaction to him and thankful for all the support. Unfortunately, I don't have any of my own pictures from the show (since, per Justin, cameras weren't allowed), but I did get some off Volume One's website:
Bon Iver is also mentioned in a Leader-Telegram article last week because the EP "Blood Bank" was the number one downloaded album off iTunes. It's so amazing that our town has such an international sensation. If you have an iPod, it's not complete until Bon Iver's albums (For Emma, Forever Ago) (Blood Bank) are on it.

Local Music Scene~the Daredevil Christopher Wright
Chad and I went to the Underground at Stout on Thursday night to hear The Daredevil Christopher Wright. I have know about these fabulous guys ever since my sister Laura became friends with them. At the show, they said that they have their first full-length album, In Deference To A Broken Back coming out sometime in the spring. Here are some pictures that I took of the show:
{Jesse-drums and vocals, Jason-keyboard, guitar and vocals, Jon-vocals, guitar}
{Jon}
{Jesse and Jason}
{All the boys}
{All done}
{The album cover}
If you are ever in the Eau Claire area, please pick up a Volume One and check them out (and also other local bands) to see when they play.
Here are some other articles and websites featuring the band:

Volume One
Ambledown Management
Daytrotter article and some songs {A Conversation About Cancer} {The East Coast} {How to Get My Head Back on My Shoulders} {My Attempts to Grow a Beard}

Have you seen this?
I just saw this movie and I didn't know what to expect. I was very happy to find it was a pleasant flick. It was so well done and really colorful and imaginative. It's just so charming and I love Penelope's sense of style and decorating. It also had a really great message for young girls (and older girls for that matter) about self esteem and loving what you see in the mirror.
I loved Penelope's bedroom {although this was the only picture I could find online}:
It's just so colorful and inspiring. If you watch the movie, make sure to watch the special features {they show more of her unique bedroom}.
Added bonus to the flick-it had this eye candy: {image found here}.
If you ever get the chance, please consider watching this movie.

Sweet Little Nephew
My beautiful big sister Laura is having a boy in just a couple months. (April!) While the little guy is cookin' in sister's belly, I have been shopping online for some cute gift ideas.
One thing that I'd really like to get her is a baby book. People don't call the books that my mom used for all her kids "baby books". They now call them baby memory books. (Let me tell you, it took a couple furstrated trips to target.com to realize this.)
Here are some that I love:

I just want to get her something that she can write in and share with him when he's older all the things she remembered when he was a little one.

Resolutions and More
I know that the New Year is 12 days old, but this whole blog is new to me, so I'm playing a little catch-up. I do hope that I can accopmplish all these goals by the end of 2009:
*Create a blog. (Mission Accomplished)
*Use 100 stamps. This is kinda going to be easy since I have to send out invitations for Laura's baby shower, but after I send those, I'll have to find new things to send.
*Learn how to knit. I think both my grandmothers know how to knit, and I'm surprised that I've never asked them to show me. My friend Dani, also made me a beautiful scarf in high school and I want to make something like that. This is definitely one I hope to try.
*Have more of a social life. Usually on the weekend I'm too burned out from school and work that I'm perfectly content snuggling with Chad and watching a movie. There is nothing better than that, but I do wish to go out more and live my 20-year-old life. I want to do more things around Eau Claire and I think I can find fun things to do if I just read my Volume One Magazine.
*Cut down on all the TV shows I watch. I can't say too much because I have the TV on right now, but I think that how much I watch is ridiculous. On Monday alone, I think I have five shows that I watch regularly. Part of that is because Fox decided to schedule House on Mondays. I'm not saying that I will remove it from my life forever, but I do think that it's time to stop watching repeats and some reality shows just to have something to watch.
*Be more involved in my church and in the spiritual part of my life. I wish that I didn't have to make this part of my 2009 goals, but I am sinful and I don't follow and center my life around God as much as I should. Hopefully I will be able to sing in my church's choir this semester and also attend this.
I do hope that I can try to keep all my resolutions. If I ever think of any other ones, I'll make sure to tell you about them.

Hello Blogging Land!
It feels very weird to venture out on this new blog project that I've created for myself. I have been browsing blogs for about a year and I finally got the courage to start a blog myself. I feel very small in this vast blog world, but I do hope that if you ever come across my tiny blog, that you would come back.
I chose the name Project Simple Life because I am trying to create a life for myself that is-simple. Clutter-free. Drama-free. Relaxing. I just want to minimize the "things" that I have.
I hope that this blog is exciting for me. It will take me a while to figure everything out and be as great as all the blogs I admire...wish me luck!
